Art Is the Saying of the Unsayable

Proposition: The goal uniting all art is to speak beyond language. Not to "express." But to say--to say what cannot be said. To do this is must create an experience that cannot be created without art, that cannot be created by anything "natural." It is to take the "natural" and bring out what nature cannot--though it does approach or retreat, as does art, this saying. What the neo-classicists used to call "nature," the nature of human nature, that is, and distinguish from the "un-natural," though what they called "un-natural" was more often merely "uncivilized," that thing this is manifest and hidden in everything, this is what art sets up to experience.
